Episode 27 – Wedding Planning Stress, Power Struggles & Healing

with Lindsey Bourne

Planning a wedding is supposed to be one of the happiest times of your life—but if we’re honest, it can also bring up stress, conflict, and old emotional patterns that feel overwhelming. From family pressures to differences in vision, wedding planning has a way of shining a spotlight on dynamics that couples may not have realized were there.

In this episode of Now You May Kiss™, Chanelle welcomes Lindsey Bourne, a relationship coach and couples therapist based in the Bay Area. Lindsey helps ambitious women and couples break free from patterns of conflict, disconnection, and dysregulation so they can build relationships that feel grounded, secure, and deeply aligned for the long term. With a master’s in counseling psychology and years of experience blending somatic practices, attachment healing, and subconscious reprogramming, Lindsey brings both compassion and wisdom to the conversation.

Together, Chanelle and Lindsey explore:

  • The Power Struggle Phase in relationships—what it is, why it happens, and how it can actually become a doorway to transformation.
  • Attachment wounds and why relationships often bring up old pain that has nothing to do with incompatibility.
  • How to reframe emotional triggers as healing opportunities, not signs your relationship is broken.
  • Strategies for navigating wedding planning stress—from family expectations to vendor issues—and staying grounded as a couple.
  • The difference between guilt and resentment when setting boundaries, and how to work through these feelings together.
  • Lindsey’s “U-turn” approach to conflict resolution that helps partners move from blame to self-awareness and growth.

Lindsey reminds us that the challenges couples face—whether during wedding planning or everyday life—are not obstacles to love, but opportunities for deeper connection and healing.

Episode 30 – Beyond the Perfect Honeymoon

Luxury Travel That Reflects Who You Are — with Carolyn Kulb

Discover how to plan a stress-free, luxurious honeymoon that feels truly you. Chanelle Carlin interviews Luxury Travel Advisor Carolyn Kulb of Windward Path about meaningful travel for high-end couples.

Introduction

Your honeymoon is more than a vacation — it’s the first adventure you take as a married couple. But between wedding planning and the pressure to “get it right,” creating that once-in-a-lifetime trip can be… a lot.

Why Honeymoon Planning Is Uniquely Challenging

  • Wedding planning stress and the pressure of perfection
  • When one partner takes on all the planning
  • The emotional weight of starting married life “the right way”

Key Decisions Couples Need to Make Together

  • How to balance adventure vs. relaxation
  • Choosing your ideal destination, not what’s trending
  • When multi-destination trips help (and when they complicate things)

The Case for Delayed Honeymoons

  • Why luxury couples are waiting 1–6 months post-wedding
  • How breathing space turns a trip into an experience

The Value of Expert Guidance

  • Insider access and perks only a travel advisor can provide
  • Why true luxury is stress-free, personalized, and intentional

Closing Thoughts

Whether it’s your ceremony or your honeymoon, the most unforgettable moments come from experiences that feel genuine, not performative.

Episode 32 – Talking with Your Children About Remarriage

with Rosalind Sedacca, CLC – Founder of the Child-Centered Divorce Network

When a parent finds love again after divorce, it can be a season filled with joy, renewal, and—if children are involved—many tender emotions. In this moving episode of Now You May Kiss™, Chanelle sits down with Rosalind Sedacca, Certified Life Coach, Divorce & Parenting Coach, and founder of the Child-Centered Divorce Network, to talk about the emotional landscape of remarriage with children and how parents can nurture safety, honesty, and connection through the process.

Rosalind shares her own story of divorce and co-parenting, the pivotal moment when her adult son thanked her for “doing divorce right,” and the lessons that led her to create the Child-Centered Divorce Network. Together, Chanelle and Rosalind explore:

  • Opening the conversation early: Why talking with your children (not around them) builds security long before a wedding date is set.
  • Seeing through your child’s eyes: Understanding jealousy, fear, and uncertainty when a new partner enters their world.
  • Love that multiplies: How to explain that “love isn’t pie” — there’s always room for more without replacing anyone.
  • Healthy introductions: Practical tips for introducing a new partner or step-parent slowly and respectfully.
  • The language of reassurance: Words and phrases that help children feel safe—and what to avoid saying.
  • Modeling emotional responsibility: The power of apologizing, validating feelings, and showing empathy.
  • Celebrating as a family: Ideas for including children in remarriage ceremonies or family vows so they feel truly part of the new story.

Memorable Moment from the Episode

Chanelle shares a touching story from a family wedding where a young daughter, joyful throughout the engagement, burst into tears walking down the aisle with her dad. Rosalind helps unpack what was happening beneath those big emotions — and how that family’s gentle, compassionate response modeled exactly what child-centered love looks like.

Takeaway Message

When parents remarry, the family expands — it doesn’t replace. Children need time, honesty, and reassurance that their place in your heart will never change. By leading with empathy and intentional communication, you not only build a stronger new marriage… you give your children a lifelong example of healthy love.

Episode 35 – Sustainable, Meaningful Weddings

with Kiira Portet of Evergreen Event Company

Today on the Now You May Kiss™ podcast, I’m thrilled to welcome Kiira Portet, owner of Evergreen Event Company, a Seattle-area wedding and elopement planner devoted to intentional and eco-conscious celebrations. Kiira blends her background in corporate event planning with a deep love for creativity, connection, and sustainability—helping couples craft wedding experiences rooted in their values.

in This Episode:

The Beauty and Benefits of Small Weddings & Elopements
Kiira and I discuss why intimate weddings allow couples to be more present, more connected, and less overwhelmed. With fewer guests, couples have the freedom to personalize their celebration, invest in meaningful details, and make thoughtful choices that reflect what truly matters to them.

How Wedding Planners Support Elopements and Micro-Weddings
Even small events have logistics. Kiira shares how planners can:

  • Source and coordinate eco-minded vendors
  • Handle day-of logistics so the photographer can focus on imagery
  • Pick up florals, cake, or rentals for traveling couples
  • Manage guest comfort, unexpected weather shifts, and timeline transitions
  • Support celebrations with 10–20 guests, where “small” still involves moving parts

Sustainability in Weddings
We explore the growing movement toward environmentally responsible weddings, including:

  • Choosing florists who avoid floral foam
  • Renting décor, tables, linens, and items used weekend after weekend
  • Asking venues about shared décor closets
  • Reusing florals by donating them to local care facilities (Kiira mentions the Wenatchee nonprofit Lilies of the Valley)
  • Reducing travel and waste by focusing on meaningful experiences rather than disposable items

Kiira encourages couples to start small—one sustainable choice at a time.

Starting Wedding Planning with Your WHY
Before budgeting, before guest lists, before venues—Kiira challenges couples to begin by asking:

  • Why are we choosing to have a wedding?
  • What does this celebration represent in our love story?
  • What kind of marriage do we hope to build?

Your “why” becomes your North Star. It helps you navigate outside opinions, expectations, and pressures, and ensures that your wedding day—and the decisions you make—feel aligned with your values and your future together.

The Emerald Hour Collective
Kiira shares her work with Emerald Hour, a Seattle-based group of wedding vendors committed to sustainability. Through events, education, and community support, Emerald Hour helps vendors adopt environmentally responsible practices and inspires couples to design celebrations that feel intentional and lasting.

In this episode, we explore:

  • Why creativity is essential to our overall well-being
  • How art helps reduce stress, anxiety, and isolation
  • Cindy’s philosophy of Create, Connect, and Flourish
  • Why you don’t need to be “artistic” to enjoy a painting party
  • How painting parties make meaningful alternatives for bridal showers and bachelorette celebrations
  • The beauty of multi-generational gatherings centered on creativity
  • Why shared experiences matter more than perfect results
  • How art fosters problem-solving, confidence, and joy
  • Reclaiming childlike play in adulthood—without judgment or pressure

Cindy also explains how her painting parties work, from pre-traced canvases to step-by-step guidance, making the experience approachable and fun for everyone. Guests walk away not only with a finished piece of art, but with memories, laughter, and a deeper sense of connection.

This episode is a reminder that celebration doesn’t have to be loud, boozy, or over-the-top to be meaningful. Sometimes, the most powerful moments happen when we sit side by side, create something together, and simply enjoy being human.

Episode 42 – Destination Weddings: What Couples Need to Know with Carolyn Kulb of Windward Path

Destination Weddings Done Right

On this episode of the Now You May Kiss Podcast, I’m joined again by luxury travel advisor Carolyn Kulb, founder of Windward Path, to explore one of the most exciting (and sometimes misunderstood) wedding trends today: destination weddings.

If you’ve ever imagined getting married on a mountaintop, at a European villa, or beside the sea, this episode is for you.

And here’s something that may surprise you:

One in four couples is now choosing a destination wedding.

Let’s break down what that really means.

Who Should Consider a Destination Wedding?

Destination weddings aren’t for everyone — but they’re for more people than you might think.

Carolyn shares that destination weddings can be ideal for:

Couples With a Distributed Guest List

If your families live in different states or countries, choosing a neutral location can simplify decision-making. Everyone travels. No one side “hosts.”

Couples Who Want Intimacy

A destination wedding naturally reduces guest count.
It creates a deeply personal, meaningful celebration.

Couples Planning a Second Wedding

Second marriages often prioritize experience over spectacle.
Destination weddings provide celebration without the pressure of a large hometown event.

Couples Who Want Their Budget to Stretch

In some locations, your budget may go further than in major U.S. cities.
But — and this is important — that’s not always the case.

Destination weddings can save money.
They can also cost more.

It depends entirely on location, guest count, and priorities.

Types of Destination Weddings

When many people hear “destination wedding,” they imagine a beach in Mexico.

That’s certainly an option.
But it’s far from the only one.

Here are some growing trends:

European Romance

Think villas in Italy.
Wine estates in Portugal.
Elopements near the Eiffel Tower.

Adventure Destinations

The Pacific Northwest mountains.
Costa Rica’s jungles and beaches.
New Zealand’s dramatic landscapes.

These locations offer activities for every generation — from ziplining to hot springs.

City Celebrations

Instead of New York, why not Paris?
Instead of Los Angeles, why not Barcelona?

Destination weddings can be urban, rustic, coastal, or completely unconventional.

The Essential Wedding Team

One of the biggest misconceptions is that couples must manage everything themselves. You should not. Carolyn strongly recommends two key professionals:

1. A Travel Advisor

A travel advisor handles:

  • Guest flights
  • Room blocks
  • Group rates
  • Excursions
  • Travel questions

This prevents you from becoming the default customer service line for 30 or 300 guests.

2. An On-Site Wedding Planner

Most destination resorts and venues include an in-house wedding planner.

They coordinate:

  • Ceremony logistics
  • Catering
  • Alcohol
  • Florals
  • Seating
  • Local vendors

You may not need to hire a separate U.S.-based planner unless you prefer one.

The key is clarity of roles.

You celebrate.
They coordinate.

Legal vs. Symbolic Ceremonies

This is one of the most important conversations.

Many countries make legal marriage complex for non-residents.

For example, some European Union countries require extensive documentation.
Other destinations require long residency periods.

Because of this, many couples:

  1. Legally marry in the United States.
  2. Host a symbolic ceremony at their destination.

This approach simplifies paperwork dramatically.

As an officiant, I care deeply about making sure your marriage is legally valid.
Separating legal and symbolic ceremonies can remove enormous stress.

And it’s completely acceptable.

When a Destination Wedding May Not Be Ideal

There are situations where a destination wedding isn’t wise.

Consider avoiding one if:

  • Key family members cannot travel due to health or finances
  • It would create significant family conflict
  • The budget truly isn’t there
  • You are set on completing all legal paperwork abroad

There is no “right” wedding model.
Only the one that serves your marriage best.

Practical Considerations Couples Often Forget

Carolyn shared several logistical realities couples should think through early:

Communicate Early and Clearly

Send save-the-dates early.
Provide a detailed travel information page.
Set expectations upfront.

Travel Insurance Is Non-Negotiable

Flights get canceled.
Luggage gets lost.
Delays happen.

Insurance protects your investment and your peace of mind.

Weather and Season Matter

Off-season may be cheaper.
But it may also be colder — or unbearably hot.

Have a Plan B.

Especially for outdoor weddings.

Plan Extra Time On-Site

Arrive 4–6 days before your ceremony.
Build in time for jet lag and vendor meetings.
Add space for problem-solving.

Then, consider staying afterward for your honeymoon.

A destination wedding should feel spacious — not rushed.

A Final Encouragement

Whether you’re dreaming of Greece, Mexico, Ireland, or the Pacific Northwest…

Your wedding does not have to follow a single formula.

It can be:

  • Legal here, symbolic there.
  • Small and intimate.
  • Adventurous and bold.
  • Romantic and traditional.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is alignment with your values, with your story and with your marriage.

Episode 43 – How Entrepreneurial Couples Can Strengthen Their Marriage and Business with Annie Yatch

In this episode of the Now You May Kiss Podcast, Chanelle Carlin welcomes transformational relationship expert Annie Yatch for a powerful conversation about what it really takes for couples to thrive in both marriage and business.

Annie specializes in helping entrepreneurial couples navigate the unique pressures that come with building companies and relationships simultaneously. Through her work, she guides couples in identifying subconscious patterns that create conflict and replacing them with tools that foster connection, collaboration, and mutual leadership.

Drawing from her own experience building multiple businesses with her former spouse—as well as her background working with high-performance leaders—Annie shares a practical methodology for helping couples communicate more effectively, resolve conflict, and reconnect when tensions arise.

Throughout the conversation, Chanelle and Annie explore how couples can create a shared emotional vision for their relationship, learn to interrupt negative conflict patterns, and develop the communication skills necessary for long-term partnership.

Because as Annie beautifully reminds us, the goal in conflict isn’t to win the argument—it’s to race back to connection as quickly as possible.

For couples preparing for marriage or navigating life and business together, this episode offers powerful insight into building a relationship that supports both partners’ growth.

Key Topics Discussed

  • Why entrepreneurial couples face unique relationship challenges
  • The role subconscious beliefs play in conflict and communication
  • How identifying the “story” you’re telling yourself can transform disagreements
  • Creating a shared emotional vision for your relationship
  • Why successful couples prioritize connection over being right
  • Annie’s practical framework for giving feedback in a way that strengthens relationships
  • How compassion, gentleness, and vulnerability create stronger partnerships

Her signature approach blends neuroscience, emotional intelligence, and practical leadership to help partners communicate authentically, dissolve hidden power struggles, and reignite connection where achievement once crowded intimacy.

Known as the Chief Transformation Officer for Influencers and Entrepreneurs, Annie is trusted by high-performing couples who want more than business growth—they want relational mastery. Her work helps dismantle subconscious patterns of control, competition, and trauma so both partners can lead with vulnerability, purpose, and unity.

  • Why post-wedding sadness is more common than we think
  • The emotional shift from wedding planning to married life
  • How cultural pressure around the “perfect day” impacts couples

  • The power of naming and communicating your emotions
  • Why your marriage—not your wedding—is where your story truly begins
